Digital cameras have taken over the spot previously occupied by film cameras. The most notable advantage of digital cameras over film cameras is the fact that the digital images can be transferred directly into computers and reproduced in no time. Digital camera photos can also be reprinted over and over, without sacrificing the image quality of these photos.
Another advantage is that digital cameras have functions that film cameras do not have like recording video with sound and deleting images. Some digital cameras even have video-in ports that allow them to be connected to television sets — the photos taken can then be displayed on TV.
Digital camera photos can also be copied or videotaped, or transferred to compact discs.
One of the latest digital camera models in the market is Canon’s EOS 5D Mark II, which is considered the first compact full frame digital SLR. This highly advanced camera is able to take pictures with crystal clear quality what with its 21.1 megapixel capacity. It takes photos at a speed of 3.9 frames per second and may be used for a variety of purposes: from studio to wedding to nature to travel photography.
The most notable innovation of this camera, however, is its full high definition (HD) video capability. It can be used for recording video or movies with 1080 resolution. The 3.0” clear view LCD displays excellent image quality. Other useful features of this lightweight and compact digital camera include an improved cleaning system that combats sensor dust, a wireless file transmitter, and an expanded ISO range of 50-25,600.
Another interesting addition to the digital SLR market is the Pentax K-m or K2000. It is light and easy-to-use and designed mainly for beginner users who want to be assured of high quality digital photography. Some of its features include an upgraded Auto Picture Mode, which is able to detect the subject or scene type before choosing the proper shooting mode; an in-body Shake Reduction mechanism which allows for blur-free images by reducing camera shake; continuous shooting at 3.5 frames per second; and a 2.7-inch LCD monitor. This 10.2 megapixel camera is perfect for first time digital SLR users because its buttons and levers are positioned on the camera’s grip side for easier manipulation.
Photographers may also want to try out Casio’s Exilim EX-FH20, a high speed camera which captures shots at 40 frames per second and movies at 1000 frames per second.
