Hotel Key Cards
In the past, when a traveler checks into a hotel, he is given a key for his room.
This system displayed information as the key normally had a tag carrying the room number. Nowadays, this is not a safe alternative anymore. Luckily, this system has been replaced and most hotels now use electronic key cards.
Electronic key cards like ATMS, have magnetic strips that carry codes provided by the check-in computer. Only the hotel door locks will be able to read the coded strips. Each key has a different code, so no two keys are alike. If the same room is used by another guest, the computer automatically wipes off the previous code and provides a new pattern and then sends the information over to the door lock. During check-in, hotel visitors are required to show their ID before they can be given their key cards. This new, highly modernized system is definitely safer that the old one.
Key Card Supply produces key cards for some of the best hotels and motels. Their UV-coated, gloss-finished solid-colored cards come in a variety of sizes. While the standard key card size is similar to that of a regular credit card’s 3 3/8” x 2 1/8”, they also make customized key cards that can go as thick as 30 mil.
Aside from size and thickness, customers can also choose from a wide array of options like Hi-Co or Lo-Co magnetic stripes; gold, silver or black tipping; thermal printing; hologram; foil stamping; and matte or frosted matte finish.
Another hotel key card manufacturer, PLI, uses state-of-the art printing presses in creating cards for various purposes. Aside from hotel key cards, PLI also manufactures membership cards for clubs or organizations, gift cards, and personalized cards for special occasions. Their hotel key cards are unique and elegant. A wide array of generic card and logo designs are available to customers.
Duracard Brand Cards, on the other hand, produces plastic key cards that are customized with interesting and attractive graphics. These graphics are normally advertising messages. The card’s thickness can range from .020” to .030”, depending on the customer’s choice. There are six colors to choose from and options include metallic inks, foil imprints, holograms, and security signature panels. The standard size for Duracard’s key cards is normally 2 1/8” x 3 3/8”. Key cards can also be personalized using signature and custom panels, and customers can also ask for thermal printing of their name or any other text.
Aside from added security, key cards are also more convenient; they are easy to carry and replace.
